I struggle with what words to use when talking about death. As a word nerd, I love wordplay and euphemisms. I lean towards saying "dying" and "death" but I sometimes use "passing" or "passed" if I don't know the person well. Otherwise, I'm using colorful language to discuss it.
A few of my favorite euphemisms for death:
Curtains - I can just hear it in that old-timey accent: KOIT-ens!
Toes up - Wicked Witch of the East, anyone?
Gone west - As in, it doesn't matter where they go, you won't see them again.
This story on CBC Radio looks at the words we use for death both in North America and around the world.
